I'm an architect and my firm routinely specifies interior finishes for projects so I thought I'd contribute a professional's perspective on the issue of how many coats of paint are deemed "acceptable". The fact of the matter is the average consumer usually isn't a paint expert and can't be expected to know about all the factors that impact coverage. That knowledge is considered "means and methods" and in a court of law, the responsibility lies with the painter or general contractor, not the consumer. What the consumer should be concerned about is the final result-does it look good and is it what you expected? The simplest way to communicate this to your painter is to stipule in your written agreement that the number of coats will be "as required to cover". That way all the guess work about what kind of primer, how many coats, how color affects the scope of work, etc., is removed from the consumer's responsibility and resides where it belongs-with the professional. In the contract that's why retention is always a good idea-typically 10% is withheld from payment until the job is completed to the satisfaction of the customer. Of course in return you as the customer have to be reasonable about what constitutes a completed job. Just my $.02.

Can't speak highly enough of the service we received from James and his team. I did my due diligence and met with 3 painters. If I'd have met with James first, I might have skipped the other meetings. He talked me out of some extra work that wouldn't have come out the way i'd envisioned and showed me a packet full of successful projects, happy clients that dated back to the 1970s.
If there is any peeling — and there usually is somewhere — it's essential to scrape off any loose paint. This doesn't just mean the parts that are already separated from the wood and ready to fall off on their own. Each spot where paint has peeled loose needs to be scraped thoroughly until you can no longer get the sharp corner of a putty knife under any of the surrounding edges of paint. Then, the bare spot needs to be sanded until the paint edges are smooth.

I am a project manager who hires contractors all around the country. When it was time to paint my house, I did what I always do and looked for 7 bids. I used Angie's list for references since I am new to the area and never had to hire a painting contractor. I chose Distinct Painting because during the bidding/interview process I was impressed with Kane's attention to detail, enthusiasm, and pride in his workmanship. After working with him on painting my house, I was not disappointed. We had never had to paint a house so we were not too sure how the colors would look or even what color to put in what location. Kane placed the colors on the house in locations we thought we wanted them and allowed us to look at them for a couple of days so that we could decide how we wanted the house painted. He worked with us on the color scheme and even added a nice accent strip of paint that really gave the house that special look. The quality of the work is incredible. My shed which was real worn, looks brand new! He took his time painting. He used 2 coats of paint and even took an extra day just to make sure all the touch up work was done to our satisfaction. I am very satisfied with the quality or Kane's work and the attention of detail he puts into his work. He is a great person to work with. I would recommend Kane for any painting job. I plan on using him for interior painting when we are ready.
The best time of the year to paint your home is typically in late spring and early summer when it’s warm outside and moisture is low. This can change based on your geographic location. For example, fall can be a good time to paint in California when the difference between high and low temperatures is low. Your painter will select the optimal time to start your exterior painting project.
Third: The contractor buys the materials. We get them at a better rate and customers really don't know what they are getting into by being a material racer. Once again, I'm not referring to the guys that paint a bedroom or 2 a week. Tell the homeowner to go grab 50 gallons of paint, $300.00 worth of sundries and related job cost items and I'd be interested to see how it works for them....IT WILL NOT. And if were talking about people getting taken advantage of here, the paint suppliers with no relationship to a homeowner will 100% GOUGE the customer and completely take advantage of them with pricing. Contractors will pay nearly half the price and will still save the customers money marking up paint 10-15%.
Only a dummy gets involved with so-called "contractors." Hire a qualified actual worker yourself. Check out their resume/background, etc. RULE #1..NO ADVANCE DEPOSITS! Pay daily or weekly or upon satisfied completion according your standard, not workers. Contractors are merely employment agents. If that's the way you get work done, then go ahead and waste your money and wind up with the myriad of problems enumerated upon in the news clip above. RULE#2.. NO SMOKERS. They are lighting up on your money. RULE#3: No cell phones while working. Talk on their own time after work
Comment: While useable, this one has been well loved, like a child's stuffed animal. A little rough and certainly not gift quality. Expect it to have signs of heavy use with highlights/notes and/or stickers. Probably doesn't have CD/DVDs, etc. Obviously used but well within guidelines. All items use stock photos.
