I am a project manager who hires contractors all around the country. When it was time to paint my house, I did what I always do and looked for 7 bids. I used Angie's list for references since I am new to the area and never had to hire a painting contractor. I chose Distinct Painting because during the bidding/interview process I was impressed with Kane's attention to detail, enthusiasm, and pride in his workmanship. After working with him on painting my house, I was not disappointed. We had never had to paint a house so we were not too sure how the colors would look or even what color to put in what location. Kane placed the colors on the house in locations we thought we wanted them and allowed us to look at them for a couple of days so that we could decide how we wanted the house painted. He worked with us on the color scheme and even added a nice accent strip of paint that really gave the house that special look. The quality of the work is incredible. My shed which was real worn, looks brand new! He took his time painting. He used 2 coats of paint and even took an extra day just to make sure all the touch up work was done to our satisfaction. I am very satisfied with the quality or Kane's work and the attention of detail he puts into his work. He is a great person to work with. I would recommend Kane for any painting job. I plan on using him for interior painting when we are ready.
Now at 59 years old, I've been trying to psych myself up to paint my own house this summer, and John Burbidge's guides at How to Paint a House Right.com have reminded me of all the exterior house painting tips I had forgotten since the last time I painted a house 30 years ago. Now I'm ready to tackle it again, saving myself about $3000 and taking pride in a job well done, as the author describes so well in the book and on his website. Thank you John Burbidge for yet another job well done.

In some cases, professional painters may include additional charges for specialized equipment that homeowners can't purchase on their own. Because professionals have licenses and access to such equipment, it's simpler to let them get those themselves. But providing some of the smaller equipment and extras directly really can help to cut down on the total cost of your project.
"There's wisdom in a multitude of counsel" {Bible Book of Wisdom/Proverbs} I thank you all I learned so much here not only painting but contracting in general. After all this I realize how blessed my ignorance not taken advantage of by Greater Philadelphia area motivated young skilled pride-in-work honest hardworking + seasoned older employee of Scott Gribling Painting of Lansdale PA. I'm proud I had the idea that Tom Parkinson here taught me the phrase & affirmed paying daily "progress draws" & purchase receipts instead of advance deposit in case something happens to contractor, and as Tom teaches the natural effectiveness of receiving from the day's work :)
To get basic measurements, measure the length and width of each wall you want to paint in inches. Multiply the length and height together, and divide by 144. This will give you the square footage for each wall. A gallon of paint typically covers around 400 square feet. In some cases, you may need a primer 2 first, then a single coat of paint, meaning that you may need one gallon of primer and one gallon of paint to cover 400 square feet. However, if the wall requires multiple coats, this will increase the total amount of square footage required, and therefore the amount of paint.

@Neil What is the use of repeating lessons when there is so much more to be learned? Technology has moved on from the adz. Plumbers use PEC, insulation is sprayed, glue-lams allow for open floor plans and furnaces are no longer stoked with coal. As for the new people, if these trades cannot attract fresh blood we will all be unable to get homes built and repairs made. I don't yearn for my first home with the leaky concrete block foundation, failing well pump and an oil furnace held up by the plenum. I'll take heat pumps, solar panels and PVC waste pipes any day.You can get all the sill plate repairs and flitch beams demos you need on YouTube.

I totally agree with this as well. I think every time I have read Angie's List reports, they are inaccurate and not researched enough. I had COMPLETE faith in Angie but lately I am hesitate on reports. I would check your local hardware store or even your neighbors to get a recommendation for painters. If you liked what you saw, you can be stress free with your results. I live in Texas and I have borrowed my hardware store opinion bc that seems to be the place most of the contractors or painters come to buy stuff for the jobs. If your neighbors painters, contractors, electricians and plumbers have shown good results, stress free you. I have been stress free with results, glad I asked for other opinions.Don't forget, the Hardware Store knows if that person is trustworthy and honest, their accounts would be shut down.
Comment: While useable, this one has been well loved, like a child's stuffed animal. A little rough and certainly not gift quality. Expect it to have signs of heavy use with highlights/notes and/or stickers. Probably doesn't have CD/DVDs, etc. Obviously used but well within guidelines. All items use stock photos. I was a painting contractor for many years and never asked for a deposit upfront. A good contractor should have great credit with his suppliers and an even better contract if the deal should go south before the job is done. Get to know your customer and explain how each paint covers so they understand fully before you have to apply 3 or 4 coats. If you didn't bid your job right and the client has already signed the contract then that is on you not the client. Yes I haven had to eat the difference but the client was happy and a return customer for years so I made up for it.
Even the exterior of the building speaks to what goes on inside of those walls. We collaborated with TONO to make sure the building kept the integrity and character of its pre-existing structure and history, but still reflects TONO’s innovative brand. An example of this effort is the building’s exterior, which we put through a number of treatments in order to get it to its new dark gray hue -- garnished with TONO’s logo, some of which is painted directly on the brick.
